Both kids got a used car when they left home--and their own insurance (which our son let lapse and then ended up falling asleep at the wheel - ending up in a farmer's field.....). We paid for our daughter's wedding and spent the same on our son's honeymoon. I help with Catholic school tuition--which is wicked expensive up here.
There is an agreement that we will probably live in a granny pod or apartment with our daughter's family when the time comes---but we, hopefully, are a long way away (but my husband turns 70 in 18 months....) Then the bills may be on the other foot???
They are all independent, yet we are attached in many ways.Janettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10054888725603183006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-316583760554792907.post-81770944256794572092018-11-18T21:10:12.729-08:002018-11-18T21:10:12.729-08:00Hi Christian! On the one hand it sounds kind of scary not to have that pile of money available if something happens, but logically, you had a lot more protection during the years you needed it and were able to invest to cover your current needs. Re this post, we bought our house in 1989, and paid it off a bit early. In the last couple of years we sold it, and used the proceeds to buy a house in Ecuador and move our stuff here. We live comfortably on modest retirement income, don't need a car. Medical care is professional and inexpensive. Low-stress Catholic culture. Both of us (61&68) are fine with "living in the backyard". The major obstacle is their ability to move. Knowing that both of our relatives have lived well into their 80's and now 90's- that is a long commitment. I don't expect us to need anything in particular for the next fifteen years. That will get both of their families into their "first" retirements.
Robots may be the key to the future of being more independent longer. I look forward to the invention of comfort robots. I think they are on the edge- and will be available (like self driving cars) in the next ten years. I hope to make it to heaven before I need turning in my bed....Janettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10054888725603183006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-316583760554792907.post-79638780646672731012018-09-29T06:28:28.139-07:002018-09-29T06:28:28.139-07:00webull have crypto ? and i available for european ...webull have crypto ? and i available for european citizen ?aldocapizzi@gmail.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00918504923417786332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-316583760554792907.post-10395999862114214942018-09-28T22:02:58.072-07:002018-09-28T22:02:58.072-07:00Back when my mother could no longer live on her ow...Back when my mother could no longer live on her own, she came to live with me for a year or so. GET INSURANCE. You're so right. I think people underestimate how difficult actually leaving can be, however. Keep your car at least half full of petrol at all times. Every man and his dog will be queuing at the service station. Keep basic supplies in your car - maybe dry clothes, walking shoes, torches etc. Things that would be useful if your car broke down somewhere random anyway. Keep some cash somewhere. Keep your cellphone charged, or have a portable power thingie. These are all just things that narrow the window between needing to leave and actually leaving. That's the bit that actually makes a difference.Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09834022203111957675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-316583760554792907.post-44631372409720211102018-08-25T13:12:45.118-07:002018-08-25T13:12:45.118-07:00Opps- the creek is 50 yards, not feet, from the bo...Opps- the creek is 50 yards, not feet, from the bottom of the hill my house is on.Janettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10054888725603183006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-316583760554792907.post-1187851262237672712018-08-25T13:11:52.421-07:002018-08-25T13:11:52.421-07:00Good list. We have a creek 50 ft away- but not taking chances.
After living in fire country we learned to have several alternate light sources (solar not candles) and water stored. We also got a hand pump for our well so the fire crews could access our water. Other things: Pet carrier (difference between your pet staying with you or not), simple filter masks, a good shovel, and a few construction garbage bags, a contact list (if your phone dies), cup, plate and spoon for each person. A light backpack is a Godsend. So much stays in your car- but you want to go to your car and bring small amounts out at a time for inside.
I've digitized hundreds of photos, but need to take pictures of the paintings hung. Congrats on the increase in dividends from last year as compared to this year.

I play around with Robinhood as well, but to a much lesser extent. One other thing to look out for is the stability of the insurer. Although insurer failure is rare, and is somewhat regulated by the state, recently there have been a few failures, with others leaving the business. If you get LTC insurance, you want to make sure the company will be around to pay out your benefits, and you want to make sure you don't lapse in your premium payments, especially after paying them for years.Gary @ Super Saving Tipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06836802330933622256noreply@blogger.com
